REPORT:
Although pre-entry numbers were slightly down on last year, and with bad weather predicted, some 400 ponies and horses turned up to the David Broome Event Centre in Crick for the 9th annual SWPA Championship Show. With the finals of the prestigious Kitt-Kraiburg International In hand Competition and MTM Twrcoed Supreme Ridden Championship as the highlights of the Saturday Evening Performance; entries came from all over the South Western region to enjoy three days of competitive showing and fun.

was Karen Hodge with her Fell stallion Townend
Midnight. Having previously won the Cavendish Premier In hand competition at
the
Charise Broad from Weston-super-mare riding the Welsh Section C stallion, Ffrethi Flashback won the MTM Twrcoed

Supreme Ridden Championship with Angrahad
Thomas riding Sedgelands Riverdance
as reserve.
Anhared’s
sister Billie took the Supreme ridden of the Championships with their Anglo
Arab Holtness Sweet Melody, who came forward as the
Supreme Light Horse and Pony Champion from the finals held on Saturday, and the
Riding Pony Champion Jasmin Burrows riding Mayeath Royal Flight took reserve place.
Andrew Pitman and Di Porter
continued their winning streak at the show by taking the Supreme In hand
Championship and the reserve slot with Wyecroft Petronnella standing above the yearling Wyecroft
Pasha.
The Mini Championship on Friday’s classes went to Georgina Butler on Wyedean Aaron, beaten only by Debbie Bakers Olympia Welsh Section C pony Starcrest Discovery who was also Mountain and Moorland Champion in Sunday’s finals.
Young handler champion was Tom Clarke from Pembrokeshire, whilst young Lisa-Marie Card, who is also from Pembrokeshire, won the In Hand Championship on Friday with her Shetland Grutness Axnor.
The 2006 Mini Ridden Champion of the year went to Phillippa Horton with her Open First Ridden pony Meglands Vision whilst Jessica Sayers took the Young Show Rider award with Tom Clarke receiving the Young Show Handler. Jessica and her sister Charlie also took Reserve and Champion in the Star For The Future Competition. Charlie took Champion on his Dartmoor Lead Rein, Peps Malachi, and Jessica took Reserve with the show hunter pony Stychlands Regal Lady.
Next year is the
10th anniversary of the formation of SWPA and a spectacular show is
planned. With the association being formed “to put the
into showing” an expansion
to three full days will allow extra classes to be included and create a real
