Welcome to the South West Pony Association
The Association was founded by Mr Richard Broad, Mrs Medwin Broad & Miss Jayne Vowles (retired 1999). Our committee includes, Mrs Julie Woolley (assistant show secretary), Miss Helen Woolley (entries secretary), Miss Charise Broad (affiliation secretary), Miss Stephanie Broad (treasurer), Mrs Vanessa Gilbert (senior steward), Mr Justin Broad (chief steward), Mr Melvyn Newman (safety officer), Mrs Elaine Newman (sponsorship coordinator), Miss Deborah Newman (show committee), Ms Karen Hodge (show committee), all of whom will be only too willing to answer any queries you may have about the Association. The Association runs a very full programme of shows starting in February/March, and continuing with shows in April, May (festival), June, July, September (championships) and October at various venues in the South West and Wales region. At all our shows we try to offer a wide range of classes for all types of equines and hold a wide range of PUK, NPS, Equifest and Royal London qualifying classes along with our own SWPA qualifying classes. Since starting we have added many new Championship classes to cater for the wide variety of equines our members have. In addition to our main Championship Show we now run the Wales & West Festival in May. The Festival incorporates our Winter Qualifiers and gives exhibitors a chance to qualify in the winter months for a major competition. Our SWPA KItt-Kraiburg Supreme In-Hand Championship goes from strength to strength, with exhibitors eagerly trying to qualify for this prestigious event. Recently we have introduced our Supreme Ridden Championship, which again like the Supreme In-Hand Championship has proved to be very popular. Qualifiers for these two championships are held at SWPA shows from April onwards and selected affiliated shows. We run 'Evening Performance' classes at both our Summer Championships and the Festival and include, Adult & Child Ridden, Concours D'Elegance, Ridden Pairs etc. At our Summer Championships our open classes run under the ‘Show within a Show’ series banner, is growing from strength to strength and has become very popular to members and non-members alike. Our continuing success meant that in 2002 we had to move our Summer Championship Show to a larger venue, and the show was relocated to The David Broome Event Centre at Crick, near Chepstow. Since then the show has grown with over 320 classes and was extended to run over three days in 2007. So come and join an Association, which aims to bring the FUN back into Showing & Breeding. Please follow the links above to find out more about our association.
